Attendance

Strong attendance builds strong Wildcats! Research is clear: missing just a few days—whether excused or unexcused—can impact learning, confidence, and long-term success. Let’s work together to help every Wildcat show up, grow, and thrive — because every day counts!
Please read the Student Handbook or Board Policy Manual regarding attendance and absence policies.

Absence Documentation Procedures
If your student is absent, submit documentation using one of the following:
- Written, signed note to the campus office
- Email to the campus office (see contact information above)
- Response through ParentSquare attendance notification
Important: Teachers cannot accept absence notes or messages through classroom communication apps.
Documentation is required for any absence (full or partial day):
- A parent/guardian must provide a signed explanation upon the student’s return
- Student-signed notes are only accepted if the student is 18 or older or legally emancipated
- The campus determines whether the absence is excused or unexcused
Note: Providing a note does not guarantee the absence will be excused under state law.
Absence Notifications
Parents/guardians will be notified regarding unexcused absences:
- After 5 unexcused absences, a notification letter will be sent
- State law requires additional notices for every third absence (3rd, 6th, 9th, etc.)
These notices support the district’s truancy prevention efforts and student success.
Types of Absences
Driver’s License Attendance Verification (Secondary Only)
Students requesting a driver’s license must:
- Submit a Verification of Enrollment and Attendance (VOE) form
- Turn in the form at least 10 days prior to when it is needed
- Meet attendance and class credit requirements
The VOE form is available through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
